To maximize performance of each employee, we incorporated regularly scheduled 1on1 meetings starting from 2018. This enhances trust between managers and employees and promotes learning from each other's feedback. This creates an organization that keeps on learning.

based evaluation
Rakuten Group's evaluation system is based on Competency and Performance and employees are evaluated twice per year.
The competency evaluation is based on consistency to meet expected behavior goals and it affects salary. The performance evaluation is focused on end results and achievements from goals defined at the beginning of each terms and it affects bonus amount.
Employees are evaluated based on behavior and achievements regardless of employment duration to promote consistent growth.

Competency evaluation criteria are based on 11 elements from Rakuten's “5 principles of success.” They are distributed among evaluation grades B, BB, BBB, A, AA and AAA. Each grade has clear competency definitions to help aid employee development.
