Attracted by the growth potential of the FinTech domain and wanting to be involved in work with high social significance, I joined Rakuten Payment as a new graduate. From my first year, I have been in charge of big clients. My hobbies are golf and watching soccer. Company and departmental golf competitions also serve as opportunities for interaction with management and other departments.

Current Role

From my first year at the company, I have been in charge of new introduction sales for “Rakuten Point Card,” “Rakuten Pay,” and “Rakuten Edy.” I negotiate with management of well-known companies such as major home centers, department stores, commercial facilities, apparel brands, and restaurant chains, proposing the introduction of our services.
What I emphasize is grasping the core issues of our clients and conveying the significance of introducing our services. Rakuten offers a diverse range of services. We also have the strength to provide new user acquisition and continuous communication with users through marketing services utilizing data from over 100 million user IDs. Collaborating with clients to solve management challenges by leveraging these unique Rakuten strengths is also a great source of satisfaction.

Reasons for Choosing Rakuten Payment

During my study abroad in Australia, I realized that cashless payments were deeply integrated into daily life there. Convinced that it would also become a major growth service in Japan, I focused my job search on companies involved in businesses and services that could contribute to the promotion of cashless payments. What I sought most was an environment where I could grow while being involved in work with significant discretion and a large impact on society. As a member of Rakuten Payment, I feel like I am working in an ideal environment.
It is also a great joy to be able to contribute to the promotion of cashless payments for users and the improvement of convenience in daily life, starting with cashless services, which are central to Rakuten's business. Furthermore, being able to make more valuable proposals by combining them with diverse services such as Rakuten Ichiba and Rakuten Card gives me confidence.

Joy & Appeal of Working at Rakuten Payment

The Rakuten Ecosystem has over 100 million users in Japan. The further spread of Rakuten Payment's cashless payment services will significantly contribute to improving user satisfaction and convenience. If we consider that enriching the lives of Rakuten users means enriching the lives of people in Japan, I feel that its social impact is very significant.
Rakuten has an incentive system called the “Rakuten Award,” which recognizes contributing staff once a month, with the MVP being awarded to the top performer. When I received the Rakuten Award MVP for securing a contract with a major retail chain, I communicated with staff in charge of other Rakuten services and proposed that combining services could increase sales both online and offline. This was a project where expectations were high for collaboration with the broader Rakuten Group. It reconfirmed that leveraging the strengths of diverse services to support client growth and enhance user convenience is something only Rakuten can do.

Future Career and Goals

There are various hurdles to the new introduction of “Rakuten Point Card.” These can be costs or point services independently operated by clients. To overcome these hurdles, we constantly collaborate with other group companies that provide Rakuten services to advance proposals. The ability to utilize advanced marketing data is also unique to Rakuten. Being able to imagine the future and what can be achieved with that data is also a joy of the job.
In the future, I want to challenge myself to develop more major corporate merchants. Currently, I am in charge of a top company in the industry with annual sales of several hundred billion yen. There are more challenges and stakeholders than ever before to conquer, but I want to resolve them one by one with speed and win the contract.

Message to Candidates

There are opportunities to be involved in big projects from a young age, and to propose to the management of large companies! I also had the opportunity to propose to the management of large companies from my first year as a new graduate. From a sales perspective, I feel that the diverse services and products of the Rakuten Group are a great asset. Being able to approach clients in various ways according to their challenges makes the work interesting.
Since it's an environment where you can work with people from diverse backgrounds, I learn a lot from seniors who have sales experience in various industries. Although the department head and managers are in their 60s, we can communicate frankly, so we have a relationship where we can consult without hesitation about both work and private matters.
